Since I built my daughter the Tardis table lamp, figured I needed to build something for my son. He fancies himself as quite the outdoorsman so I decided to build him a fishing rod rack. There is a problem though, he spends quite a bit of time in the shop himself…humm need a diversion….oh yeah, I am building a umbrella rack for my wife’s school. I built a wall mount version of this for a friend a few years back but decided I wanted this one where he could move it around when needed. I recently bought some oak for a table top but as I went to cleaning it up, I noticed quite a few worm holes and it was spalted in places. Not exactly what I wanted for my table but perfect for this. To give it a little contrast I used walnut for the handles and for backing plates for the cedar bass at the bottom. The idea for the bass was a play on the mounted fish you see in a lot of outdoorsmens man caves. I have to mount the casters then find a good hiding place until Christmas.

Buster that is a most excellent design
The contrasts really bring it together
The half holes
How did you do them? Did you have to cut a drill
in half? :)
I think Mary Poppins umbrella might have been used though.

Hoss- Thank you sir. I just hope he doesn’t expect me to fill the open spaces….lol

Jamie- Thank you guru. Well duh, everyone knows about the half bit. They keep them on the same shelf in the hardware store as the 2×4 stretchers and sky hooks…lol. Not sure where you got that pic of Mary Poppins my friend but could you put it back…lol that woman scares me…lol

Jamie- oh thanks ever so much….now that song is stuck in my head….lol

Joe- Thank you sir. Pesky things, untracked umbrellas… Lol

Monte- thank you sir. I channeled my inner Monte on this one. Those boards were 5/4 rough so I felt like I was working with those honking big slabs you use…

Jim- Thank you sir. I bet you tell all the little lumberjocks that….lol

Marty- Thank you my friend. I would settle for him wanting to color on everything. He has his own projects that he needs access to the tools for. Not the world’s best at putting stuff back where it belongs….lol

Dean- Thank you sir. This is a project that works well wherever there are fish…errr it rains….lol

L2L- Thank you sir. Very high praise from a fellow who I am not even qualified to sweep the saw dust from his shop floor….I will take it buddy…lol

Todd- Thank you buddy. I love the enthusiasm!!!! I would rather have a Mrs. Buster action figure that says the same thing if you can manage that cedar king…no wait, not that she’s the man but I am…on second thought… Never mind. Hope you got everybody something while you were at Bass Pro… Be watching the mail….lol

Cool work on the rack Buster. I’m getting an erg to go fishing again and just put the rods away for the winter. Nice fishy cut out on the side too.
