I took my 8 year old granddaughter to a friend’s lake where she used her new spinning rod/reel to nail several nice bass.
On the way home she was quiet and I asked what was wrong. “Grandpa, do you think I’‘m mature enough for a fly rod”? Sooo, naturally I built her a new fly rod. And she just had to have a wood case like mine, fortunately I still had some lacewood left to go with the maple.
- - when she walks in the door, she asks one of 2 questions, depending on the weather: “Grandpa, can we go fishing”? or if the weather is not so nice, “Grandpa, can we go to your shop and make something?
