I built this wine / port box for a gift exchange in my family for this coming Christmas. My cousin asked for this bottle of port and for fun, I decided to build this box. It is built out of scraps / leftovers so it was a rather cheap and quick project!

The top and bottom are made of 4/4 zebrawood that I resawed. The sides are made of leftover 8/4 maple from my coffee table (see my previous project) that I also resawed. The accent wood is leftover wenge from a humidor I built last year. I decided to use the wenge on the corners since my miter wasn’t very tight. Great way to hide this small mistake. To “wrap” the bottle, I made several shavings out of another piece of scrap maple.

Finally, the finish is spray lacquer. I applied a light coat of paste wax with steel wool to “finish the finish”. It also helps put and remove the lid very smoothly.

A great project and excellent use of scraps-I want to try a box with corners like this sometime.

Thanks for sharing.
