Ipe Dish

Practice in turning thin wood, made from recycled ipe (used to be a planter box). Basically made a glue block with my hole saw which allowed me to turn a recess on the bottom. Ipe is hard stuff but takes a crisp edge. Finished with a linseed/paste wax mixture.

Complete series of pics at the link for anyone not familiar with the technique.

Good job Rick and nice recycling. Yea, that ipe is way up there on hardness. Sometimes I believe the wood is cutting into the tool.

Nova Midi. It’s the only one I’ve used so I can’t compare it to anything but it’s good for the most part. Sometimes if I get a bad catch the piece will go out of true.

I see. I just got a PSI barracuda. Works decent enough for me. But like you say, I’ve nothing to compare it to, so who knows;-)

Nicely done. Some dark chocolate M&M Peanuts would look mighty yummy in there
