Gift Box

This is the gift box I built for a friend. The dimensions were chosen to fit a bottle of wine into it, but my son called it “little Halloween coffin” :-)

Wood is pine (or fir? – not sure, never seen worm holes neither on pine nor on fir).

Dovetailed sides, sliding lid. The thumb recess on the lid turned out quite nicely to my taste.

Finish is 3 coats of shellac.

Couple of “making-of” pictures – glue-up and shaping the lid with hollow round plane:

Thank you for looking!

Great project for hand tool exercise, really great dovetails – nice and tight.

Nice handcut dovetails and nesting the bottle in shavings is a nice idea .
Spruce has worm holes in some boards we get at times.
A nice and thoughtful gift box with a personal touch .
Keep up the nice work Yuri.

OT, thank you. I guess I started to understand how to cut DT on softwood.

Klaus, thank you. This could be spruce I think.

Andy, good to know others like your work too, not just yourself, thank you!

Nicely done! The dovetails look great, the lid looks great, and I’m lovin’ the pine (or fir lol)
