I found myself needing a split nut driver as I recently built a couple of backsaws. As seen in multiple places, I used an old spade bit for the driver. I tuned a handle out of walnut in order to get a better grip. Grabbing the shaft with a pair of pliers proved to be a bad idea as I kept slipping off the nuts..
