I carved this wood spirit in a piece of Spalted Maple wood. Spalted wood looks the way it does due to a fungus- this is a part of the decaying process of the wood. Before I could begin working on this fella’, I had to clean the piece of all of the soft, punky and rotted wood. Carving Spalted wood is very unpredictable, as it is difficult to know where there will be voids and cracks. This is now a solid, finished wood carving in Spalted Maple.

11 1/2” tall, 4” wide x 5” thick

“Stan of Spalt”

Stan’s the man that plans to plan, but never can remember. He planned to be here for Christmas this year, But showed up in November. No one was home, Stan left alone, he thought we had forgotten. Oh Stan of Spalt, it’s not our fault, that your memory is rotten.

I have this fella’ for sale in my shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/JoshCarteArt

Wow that is an exact likeness of my Sister. When she was in her youth of course and looked prettier. I am tempted to buy it to put on my mantlepiece to keep my grand children away from the fire. Alistair

Hey Josh I am curious to know how long on average does one of your carvings takes you to do?
