Friend got a bargain on a couple of Bowie knives with broken plastic handles. Wanted to see what I could do with them, so did I, this is what happened. Thought the idea of a matched set was cool, so I worked with that. When hiking I keep my eyes open for shed antler and this is from my limited stock. They are cascade elk antler with a hard walnut butt attached to the end. Mounted on a chunk of walnut with a mule deer antler support. I like my Bowies to have large handles to balance the knifes weight. I also figured people don’t actually use Bowies much, so a set with display would be nice.At least the knife lover can look at them. Hey, it has a little wood!

Very nice knives. I like the touch of wood included with the antlers.

Love your work with knives, all those antler handles bring back memories of my old hunting days. The added bonus of the beautiful stands really sets off the knives. Keep up the good work.

Nice… My dogs bring me lots of antler sheds every Jan/Feb, and I’ve been looking around for something to do with them. I’ve never worked with antler or bone before.
These look great, terrrific job!

Thanks you guys. Steve if you do try to work antler, don’t let the smell discourage you. You’ll get used to it and you can make a lot of accessories for you wood projects. Handles , knobs , legs, all sorts of things. Antler works well with wood tools and polishes up real shinny. Just don’t use colored buffing compound or it will color the antler. I finalize with a coat of a high quality wax. No finish. Oh, one more thing. Watch the friction heat when buffing or sanding, will burn the bone. Sometimes that’s what you want, others, not so much.
