Military Footlocker Style Toy Chest

I made this for my 5 YO son. When I was a kid, my dad gave me the genuine Vietnam-era footlocker that his father had given him. My son showed interest in it, too, but by now it’s seen better days.

Instead of giving him mine, I decided to make one of his own.

This is the first time I’ve done hand-cut dovetails on a project. The finish is Transtiint dye (mix of black and yellow yields OD green). And shellac.

I carved the “US” in the top with my router and cleaned it up with chisels.

It turned out alright, and my son loves it.
