Thanks to the Box Whisperer for the great idea, here’s my take on his concept. Made of ipe off cuts left over from building a dock (we use ipe for dock and deck surfaces in this part of Florida). I don’t have any square nails so I used masonry nails, to keep the box from splitting I pre drilled two holes side-by-side for each nail, then used a bolt cutter to cut the nails to a length shorter than the hole I drilled. After inserting all the electrics and testing the wiring I glued the lid on and inserted the nails which are actually held in by glue – didn’t want to risk splitting the wood. Fun project.

Great looking Edison lamp!

I’ve thought about making one of these, but am afraid of the bulb getting whacked…....
