Project Information

This one has been a while in the making. My daughter is a big fan of the Dr. Who TV series so when I saw the Tardis that Steve Ramsey built, it got me to thinking…my daughter would love this. The only problem was, she is working on her masters degree and will be moving on to her doctorate next year and really didn't have anywhere to put a full size replica. So I had to think…smaller.
I drew out a pattern for the door/wall panels and cut them out on the scroll saw. With eight total panels with nine holes per panel…it took a while. These were painted and glued along with trim pieces onto a oak plywood box I had prepainted. I then glued up some walnut and cut a base out of it. A handy dandy lamp kit from the big box store and its functional. Printed the signs on copy paper then laminated. I can guarantee her its one of a kind…lol Not sure I could duplicate it if I wanted to…lol.
Does anyone know where I can get an appropriate lamp shade?

Jamie- Thank you guru. From the research I did on this thing, its huge on the inside. Unfortunately, I did my job too well and it is now smarter than me…lol has activated security procedures and locked me out.
Good to hear from you buddy!!!

I've got the bits ready for a Tardis
I'm breaking between the shop and the sanding
room and want it to look as if it crashed into the
wall if that makes sense?
Problem is the wall was built 1939 to protect attack
from the sea it has a 48" brick wall that is harder than ,,,,,,,,,
Tharchin took a week to make a 9×9" hole for the ducting
Maybe I can get a fixed price to do it LoL

I'm not familiar with the series but it looks cool. You just might have to build a shade.
I'm going to look this up.

A really nice job, Buster.
Here's bunch of shades. I just picked the shape because it seemed to be appropriate. Unfortunately, I didn't see any in blue.

Browse the site for more shapes and maybe, one in blue.

Dave- thank you sir. I am not too familiar with it either but my daughter loves it. There is a ton of stuff online about the tardis and the series so you won't have to look far.

Gene- thank you sir. My gosh, who would have thought there were so many options available. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

Jeff- glad to see that with everything being frozen up there your wit still works!!! Lol but seriously buddy, who doesn't need a blue wooden phone booth??? If you are caught up, come on down… I got a few more items to finish before ole Santa runs. Have a fishing rod rack build that would be right up your alley.

If your daughter hasn't seen this yet, be prepared for her to FREAK OUT when she sees it.

As a fan of the show (and of this lamp base) I have to suggest a very specific shade: Find one of those globe shaped Chinese Lantern style shades - it will look like the Tardis is orbiting a planet. Please avoid any of the standard Cylinder or Cone shaped lampshades - they look too much like Dr. Who's archenemies the Daleks.
Great job and tell your daughter that it IS a full size replica (from one of the shows this season where it shrank).

Thanks for posting.

Great lamp, Buster! Maybe skip the shade and use a decorative bulb?

More cool styles here!
