These are great projects. I can do all the work on the knives in my shop during the day and do all the leather work on the sheaths in the house at night. Still working on one knife with a handle of swirly cocobolo. It is gonna be a beauty.
Sheaths are 9 oz. cowhide, dyed with a patch of snake or iguana skin for accent. The patch is contacted cemented on and laced. Conchos are silver ones I bought in Santa Fe, N years ago to use on a belt and never got around to it. Pulling these laces so much has really done the arthritis in my hands no good. I’m kinda glad that is over and I can give the hands a break.
All knives are wet formed to the sheaths,. Lacing is a double loop stitch of 1/8” round of rolled black leather or white Latigo. Almost finished the last knife. It is a book match of curley cocobolo. I’ll post it when finished. Knife blanks. Should be nice cause the wood is gorgeous. These knives are Black and White Ebony which is so hard it takes a polish on a wheel and needs no finish. Look at reflection on last knife pic. All the knives are polished to an almost flawless mirror finish and that is tedious work for hours. I just pull up my stool and take a break polishing,
In case some of y’all think I’ve given up wood work, these knives are just presents that needed to get done. I am currently making 2 crosses, a cedar chest, a real interesting box entirely out of useless scrap I out of the waste bin, bookcases for the little woman, got a wood delivery on it’s way and going up to our local mill this weekend and see what interesting things he has cut lately.
I’m about as busy as ever and btw I am liking the new BS. The more I use it, the better it performs. Glad I got the Jet. When my 1/8” blades come it I’ll be able to make some BS boxes like never before. Really looking forward to that.
