So I figured I would make the plunge…. and finally contribute.
This is a couple of firsts for me…. My first post here on LumberJocks and my first commissioned piece. Wow was it a learning lesson.
I have been stalking you all for several years now in awe of the gorgeous work everyone here is capable of. I have been a hobbyist woodworker now for about 4 years now challenging myself more and more as I go.
This piece here is a butcher block kitchen table made purely out of hard maple except for the two bottom shelves which are white oak (also the only wood I had to purchase for the project). Most of the hard maple was recycled from used pallets I have collected. It is constructed with mortise and tenon joinery and the table top and shelves are screwed in from below. I did not want to use screws to attach them but need to do more experimenting with that to find the best method.
There are small things here and there that were “learning lessons” but all in all I think it came out pretty nice. Charged way to little ($100) but I don’t regret it as the piece isn’t perfect, took me much longer than expected, and went to a very deserving co-worker.
Thanks for looking and all your comments! More projects to come I promise!
