Let's play the guessing game!

Project by rickf16 posted 390 days ago 810 views 1 time favorited 18 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Okay, fellow Lumberjocks. Let’s have some fun. Can anyone figure out what this is. This is the first of many I hope to make. Just a little info: It is made from purpleheart with a coat of antique oil finish. It is a piece by itself. It’s function is decorative only. Any ideas??? I work shiifts and am getting ready to do three 12 hour days in a row, so I won’t get to check my page a whole lot. I’ll try to give the answer by Monday ,3 Nov. There are no prizes to be awarded, only the satisfaction of a correct guess.

If it is decorative only, I’ll go with a sculpture.

I’ve had few offers. Don’t really know what they would go for though. I plan on using exotic woods. What do you think?

I’m curious how you made it, is the wood bent or cut that way? I like it.

the price would be up to what kind of wood you used. the more exotic the higher the price

oh, umm…. wait. Is it a…. don’t tell me. could it be a wine bottle holder? :)
- Yes I did know before reading the other responses. I think I saw one similar to this, but more of a semicircle in one of the magazines a few years back, it was bandsawn from a larger block. I’ve made a couple, triangular in shape, and I’m interested to see how different shapes, especially how minimalist they can be made, while still standing up rock solid when the wine bottle (full or empty) is put in place.

Thank you all for the responses!!! Sunglasses for a pirate. Only a someone with the name Capt Scully could think that one up. That is funny! Oh, cannot forget the chastity belt l But for who??? Flat tire repair, that is great! It could be used as a ball holder. Not sure if I want to give purpleheart a try though.
Yea Scotsman it works great. I was surprised when I tried out. It kinda reminds me of a sail on a boat when standing. I don’t have a bottle of wine at home right now. Had to try this out at a friends house. His wife loved it!
I’ll pony up for a bottle and post pics next week. Just got home from work. 12 down 24 to go. Hours that is.
And Paul, it is bandsawn from a piece of wood 10 3/4×5 1/2×1 7/8. All that wood and you only use about 10%. The plans came from Wood magazine, issue 167.
Thanks again for everyone making my night!!!
