I bought my partner a charm bracelet for her birthday,so I decided to try make a nice box using leftover walnut and some new sheets of veneer.I decided to use my router to hollow out the box in walnut instead of making the box the usual way.
I made a template out of mdf set my router up and made a separate bracelet and charm compartment.I need to work on making my template more accurately to get a better end result with the router.
I used a heart template to cut the veneer and mark the box lid where I was going to inlay the veneer, I used my chisels to carefully carve the inlay area out.It was my first attempt at a veneer, and I am happy with how it turned out. I hand carved a thumb slot in the front for ease of opening.
I used magnets to secure the box closed and lined the bottom of the box with black velvet. sanded to 800 grit that finshed with 5 coats of danish oil.
