Can't stand seeing old furniture being thrown away

Well the title just about says it..

My girlfriend and I live in the inner city, in a neighborhood without a lot of students etc. So every month a renovation (in Denmark the garbage trucks come about once a month to pick up large trash like furniture etc.) nobody takes the still useful furniture. I sometimes feel obligated to save the wooden pieces.
My girlfriend has now put restrictions on my wood hoarding though; If I can’t use it within the month she throws it away(or at least the stuff i’m not hiding in the back of my closet)

So time was pressing for this old sidetable I found with had cracked legs. Luck just so had it that we needed new shelves. in our livingroom. So i took off the broken legs, removed the old lacquer, sanded it down, sawed the table in half and painted the 2 pieces black. This made a nice contrast on the white walls and the curves from the old tabletops are a quite nice detail.

In order to get a third shelf i did the same to an old coffee table my neighbor threw away( 3rd picture). I used it as a coffee table for a few days before deciding it wa to small and low for our needs.

This project didn’t require much skill, but it did bring a lot of joy. Giving old wood new life and purpose always does..

I understand you dilemma, it’s hard to resist picking up discarded furniture when you see some potential for future projects. But with so little time to work on project, your “finds” start to accumulate and then you have no choice but to get rid of some.

Good job in recycling your old furniture finds.

Since i have plenty of time that is actually not the problem, or at least not the main one..
The biggest problem is the amount of storage space in our apartment.. My girlfriend really dosen’t like clutter. I, on the other hand, can’t perceive anything with a future purpose as such :)

Very nice. Good reuse of the wood You need to make couch or table with storage under neath! That way the wood will have a home until needed
