The iphone holder is made from scraps of exotic wood from my shop. To use up some small pieces of wood, I will laminate different wood types together when I am in the middle of a glue up or otherwise looking to distract myself with a random job.
Of the four pieces that make up the iphone holder they are all different wood types, but yet they seem to look ok together. The woodtypes I have used are Curly Maple, Cocbolo, Purpleheart and Aromatic Cedar. Several finish coats of gloss clear coat were given after a couple base coats of finishing oil had dried.
The layout was taken from my own phone, and this particular design tends to suit the thicker cases. The assembly is all half and half dadoes which make the final glue up easy breezy. Templates were made once I had the angles sorted out, so its looking like this might make a great stocking stuffer from the shop this year.
...and yes, I have been told that without the phone on it, that it well, looks rather suggestive, if you know what I mean. My answer to that is that it allows the user to pick the phone up while it is still on the stand in a comfortable and secure manner. Anything else is just a coincidence. ;)
