This little project saved my future in the hobby.
Frustrated by a day of god-awful mistakes and errors on another project and with time running out before I had to put my tools into storage for the season, I woke up one morning and started cutting wood sitting around my deck and was reminded of a toolbox my dad made me when I was a kid.
Started sketching, measuring and cutting some pallet wood I had pulled apart in anger the night before and before I knew it, four hours had passed and I had the makings of a very spartan toolbox. Used a miter saw, jig saw, two power sanders and a drill—not to mention a crapload of clamps. No screws, just dowels—which led to my only mistake. One hole on one side was too shallow and when smacking the board into place with a mallet, I chunked up a good bit of it. but that was it, and it’s only a template anyway as I’ve gone back and remeasured and adjusted all the pieces and will be building a bunch of these for my nephew’s Christmas presents.
I’ve gotta say … it was a damn good day.
