My Chicago Bears weren’t playing today so I had a full afternoon in the shop alone, the only delema was what to make.

Thought to my childhood when I would widdel away at a flimsy willow branch and call it a bow. So on a whim and a childhood memory I rummaged through my scrap pile and found some red oak that seemed like it could work? Hell if I know! I’m playing in the shop like I was a kid.

All in all it was a fun afternoon. As an adult I’ve never made a weapon in my shop, and for 4.5 hours I call this a grown up toy success.

Thanks for looking,

Will it fire arrows?

Yes it will. I know nothing about bows or archery, but it will fire a scrap piece of small oak rod through a cardboard box filled with rubber matting material and make it out the other side. I really didn’t make it to function, only look good. It will fire though.

Looks nice. What the best time in the shop is all about, having fun making something neat. I think I read somewhere that the springiest wood for bows was Yew, before they started laminating.

Have your say...
