I made these as Christmas gifts last year. They are made from purple heart and birdseye maple. The second picture has the finish on the cutting board which is a few coats of pure Tung oil with a bee’s wax based butcher block wax on top.
Enjoy!

Those boards are lovely. Care to share a bit of how you made them? Thanks for sharing

Thanks! I had to glue two pieces of Purple Heart and Birdseye maple together to get the original 12×13 boards. I then attached the boards on top of one another and sent them through the bandsaw making two parallel swirl patterns, cleaned the cuts up with an oscillating sander, switched the two edge pieces to make one have Birdseye on both sides and Purple Heart in the middle (and vice versa on the other one), glued it up, then repeated the process after turning the boards 90 degrees.
I hope that made sense. It’s difficult to say without pictures! There are other projects on LJ that have done similar (and better) wavy cutting boards if I didn’t make sense!
Have your say...
