Very nicely done. What, pray tell, is the wood for the front middle box in the second picture? It is most interesting.

Chaim, very nice…all four of them.
Thanks for posting them.
Russel – I’m betting it’s the quarter sawn red oak.

Give the man a cigar! Yup Martin got it right Quarter sawn red Oak it is.
It’s actually a glue up and a disappointment as well. The glue up is because they don’t (as far as I can ascertain) import quarter sawn Oaks so I ripped a thicker board down and did a glue up. The disappointment came from the fact that I was expecting White Oak when I bought the wood. I picked it out and in the rough these woods look really similar. The other thing is there seemed to have been something akin to water stains but in straight lines so in places the wood looked worn and greyish.
I bought about 200 or more board feet drag (schlep) it home and when I cut open one or two of the boards I got Red Oak. I’ll Tell Ya though its really pretty wood but wasn’t right for what I wanted.
I latter on made a hat and coat rack from the boards I cut open and returned the rest of it for some White Oak and others.
