The wood is wormy spalted maple, and the resin is Silmar41 colored with pearlx pearl and metalic blue. Vacuum applied during cure for bubble release. Its a Rockler Cuban pen set. Really happy with the results. Is anyone else casting oen blanks out there? Its pretty fun and the results are pretty interesting.

What do you cast them in? Do you make “pen blank molds”? I have tried one or two from poured resin. I know others are casting with other things inside such as snakeskin or carbon fiber cloth. Blog your process for us if you care to share! Nice pen!

I second what Dennis said, I have lots of really pretty pieces i’d love to cast with resin, but just don’t know how/where to begin. i’d like to hear your process also.

COOL stuff. Thanks for the info too. I just recently got hooked on pen turning and was wondering on the casting methods and materials. I will have to take a look at that site for more info.

BTW, neat pens.
