I just finished this project today. It was all made with pine 1×12’s reclaimed from my basement. It was all part of a partition wall for the old coal crib in my basement. My house was built in 1916 so it’s at least that old.
This was my first real furniture piece. Only hand tools were used for the entire process. This was a good challenge for me. The material prep alone took me awhile and lots of resharpening. I had to glue up the back twice. Some of the boards had cracks the came apart after the fist try. I had a lot of cracks to stabilize and found the pine to be very brittle at times. Especially the end grain. I finished it with shellac and then some paste wax.
All in all I’m very pleased with the results. My joints came out looking much better than I anticipated. My girlfriend loves it and we are both glad to have it checked off the “honey do” list.
