The second chisel box that I made this week. This one is for my set of mortise chisels. Like the first chisel box it is based on plans from Shop Notes Issue 37. However, I decided to make it in two halves.
This box case is made from 1” strips of mahogany ripped from mahogany door jambs that I re-glued together to make the 3.25” sides. I ran out of wood and had to route around my mahogany cut-off bin to find a few pieces for the box ends. They don’t quite match, but that is all I had.
The lid is a veneer over a poplar base. The chisel rack is made from scraps of cherry.
When I went to add the hinges this morning I realized that the inside butttons would not work when the box was open. So I cut them and simply glued them in place.
I have included a before and after photo of my mortise chisels box.
The box is 6.75” wide x 6.5” tall x 15” long.
