Here’s a small vase I made a few days back. The Holly was given to me by a friend who is a Tree Surgeon here in the U.K.

It stands a fraction under 4 inches tall, and is about 2.5 inches inner diameter at the rim. I decided to keep the shape quite simple, and with minimum decoration, to let the figure within the wood be the main feature.

The finish on this piece is 3 coats of Cellulose Sanding Sealer, and 3 coats of Woodwax 22 (paste wax)

Keith, that is really cool, I like the shape and the colouring.
Great piece of wood.
Thank you for showing.

Bob.

Nice shape, love the spalt lines and position of that tight knot!

Cool shape and a lot of color in that Holly.

Thanks for all the kind comments folks! It was only a short-ish log, but I do have another piece roughly the same size, so I may make this into a pair…..if indeed the other piece is big enough….I didn’t measure it up, as I had no idea of just how nice a piece of wood this is until I started to turn it!
