Project Information

Hey guys,
This keep safe box is made out of some #2 white pine that I planed down to 1/2'' thick.
I made a raised panel for the lid, this was done on the Table saw with the blade beveled to about 20 degrees. The Draws were made with simple tongue and groove joints and the bottom piece is set into rabbit. They were stained with a golden oak stain and lacquered, then I lined the bottom with black felt. The Draw fronts were made in the same manor as the top and stained with english chestnut stain, then lacquered. I cut out the mortises for the hing by hand with a chisel and a small router plane. I lined the top compartment with black felt on all surfaces. The carcase of the box I stained with english chestnut, the frame that wraps around the box was stained with a golden oak stain and sprayed with four coats of lacquer.

Thanks so much for looking!

Very good job. The stain makes it appear to be different woods.

Wonderful job on this unique box.
On this site we share knowledge. The little box that we slide in and out of a table or chest is a DRAWER … I know a lot of folks pronounce it draw but it's really a drawer … for what it's worth.
Keep up the work on the raised panel construction, it really looks great. ... You made that pine really shine …

My loving daughter asked me for a box. I thought a lot. Almost built one. But I guess I 'll copy this for her - any copy right fees ????
