Just finished a wall mount spice rack for my Aunt. She loves horses so I added the horse hand towel/pot holder to the bottom. As with most of my projects I just shot from the hip with the design. You guys know what I mean scribble on a block of wood and go.

I had a couple small but very twisted pieces of Mahogany so after some working around it some I came up with enough to make ths rack. The measurements are 19×18x4 made it a little deeper for her big spice bottles she gets all the time. Used dados on the shelves and a few pocket holes on the back. The Mahogany I used was 2 diffrent colors. So I used the lighter color on the shelves and the lip on the front. Then I mixed up a bit of the TransTint Brown Mahogany dye and feathered it in some and also on the very ends to give it a bit of contrast. The pics may not show it much but it came out well.

The finish is 1 coat of Danish Oil followed up by 4 coats of Lacquer, wet sanded, then 2 more coats. Since it will be close to the stove with all the steam I went on and finished the back of it as well. So in a day or so I will mount it on the wall and have her make me some supper, fair trade….. After making this it gave me an idea cause if you turn it on its side and put a shelf in the middle it would be a nice nick nack shelf design as well so that will be my next little project.

Thanks Tony

If I could take pictures as good as the finish came out I be one happy camper. I really enjoy using my Apollo HVLP system.

Nice! The metal hanger is a nice touch, the curves and finish compliment it well :)

Very nice. I have to replace my spice rack, as we are now using more spices than when I made the last one 5 years ago.

Jroot, I hear you there how big is big enough? Since this one will be real close to the stove it will just hold the one’s she using the most and the rest will stay in the cabinet which takes forever to fnd the one that not in the rack….

August, Thanks, best way is start diving into stuff and your going to make some mistakes, figure how to correct them and move on, god knows I made my fair share of screw up and still do.
