Church Lectern

This latest project completed is something that is more special than all the other items I’ve done in the past. The Catholic church in my hometown (from which I’ve been gone for over 20 years) needed a new lectern as the local priest had resorted to using a music stand. My father had asked if I would be interested in taking it on and the church would pay me. Instead I thought it an appropriate time and place to forget the $$$ and build this for them and donate to the church in memory of my mom who passed away 11 years ago. I’m sure she would be proud (although terrified that I would be using table saws, routers and anything else that could do harm – but hey, I’ve learned that that’s just really what a parent is all about). She’s dearly missed everyday by both myself and my dad.

It’s a simple lectern made from oak and solid ply with a simple mahogany cross on the front. It’s based on a photo of one that the church had considered purchasing from a church supply catalog. My dad brought it to the church yesterday and him and another parishioner put a coat of poly on it in the church basement and plan to bring it up on Saturday. The priest doesn’t yet know this is done. Hopefully will be a pleasant surprise.

Thanks for looking.

Looks great, not sure how the priest wouldn’t be pleased with it

Great job on the lectern. It would be cool to get a pic of the priest as he receives it.

What a beautiful piece off work, you can see that this lectern is made with love.
I think your dad is VERY proud on his son, I think that he tells everyone that his son
made this new lectern in the church.
It’s great to make your dad proud and also your mom off course
Are you going to church Sunday, I’m very curious what the priest find off your work.

Thank you for this beautiful story.

Henrie.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. This was a very special project to do.

Henrie- unfortunately, I no longer live in the community where the church is located. My father lives back there and he returned earlier this week to bring the lectern to the church. I’m pretty sure I’ll get a call from him on Sunday after mass.

Have your say...
