This latest project completed is something that is more special than all the other items I’ve done in the past. The Catholic church in my hometown (from which I’ve been gone for over 20 years) needed a new lectern as the local priest had resorted to using a music stand. My father had asked if I would be interested in taking it on and the church would pay me. Instead I thought it an appropriate time and place to forget the $$$ and build this for them and donate to the church in memory of my mom who passed away 11 years ago. I’m sure she would be proud (although terrified that I would be using table saws, routers and anything else that could do harm – but hey, I’ve learned that that’s just really what a parent is all about). She’s dearly missed everyday by both myself and my dad.
It’s a simple lectern made from oak and solid ply with a simple mahogany cross on the front. It’s based on a photo of one that the church had considered purchasing from a church supply catalog. My dad brought it to the church yesterday and him and another parishioner put a coat of poly on it in the church basement and plan to bring it up on Saturday. The priest doesn’t yet know this is done. Hopefully will be a pleasant surprise.
Thanks for looking.
