Here’s a fun one. I cut open a piece of birch firewood and liked the pattern so much I cut a blank out of it. After roughing it out and letting it acclimate/dry over the summer, I finally finished it yesterday. Sanded to 220, and finished with paste wax. Not a very durable finish but this is just going to be decorative, plus I wanted to try it out. Burnished the wax with 0000steel wool spinning at 2000rpm on the lathe, and buffed at the same speed with a clean cotton shop rag. The third shot is an extra piece of the birch log.
