I wish I would have done more pictures of this while I was building it. My goal is to start doing more in depth explanations with photos and hopefully video of my future projects. The only problem is finding the time.
The first two photos are the completed project. The other ones are the book shelf without paint.
My wife bought the liitle cubby things at Target to store the non stop growing collection of my kids toys/junk. She wanted me to create a book shelf with integrated storage for the cubbies. Although I know the toys will never go in there the idea in theory sounds great to me.
The book shelf is made from 2 sheets of 4’ X 8’ baltic birch ply. The face frame is thin strips of pine. All the shelf’s are held in by shallow dados and reinforced with screws. I countersunk the screws and used dowels to plug the holes. I used flat white satin paint to paint the piece, it took two coats. The entire case is around 6’ tall by 4’ wide. I used L brackets to screw it to studs in the wall at the top. Kids like climb on furniture for some reason.
