Koa and Oak box with Polynesian fish hooks. Another of the tapered-side boxes….this time, curly koa and quarter sawn oak. The sides are solid koa, tapered 10 degrees with mitered corners. The lid is shaped oak with koa veneer. The lift is oak, accented with a pair of carved mango Polynesian fish hooks. The interior tray is oak with a koa accent lift and lined with black suede, as is the box bottom. The box is approx. 6×6 inches and is finished with satin poly.

John,
Sitting here and this just popped up. Spectacular. One of your finest I think. The wood combination is great, but the lift is really nicely done. The whole thing comes together wonderfully. The tapered tray tops it off, and adds a bit more useable space. I absolutely love this one! Don’t think I’d part with this one…

Beautiful wood and construction! The double mitered corners are over the top (I can’t even get single miters to come out right, yet)!
Thanks for sharing.

John, this a really nice box. Accomplished joinery and a good overall look and feel to it.

Nice One John !
Love the look of the koa and the oak makes a nice accent ,the fish hooks are just a super touch and complete this box nicely .
I admire your skill carving these little fish hooks and also your trademark leaves ,one day you will see a box I made with the leaf you gave me .
