For my wife and my anniversaries we have been doing the traditional wedding gifts, for fun. You have to be creative for some of them. For the 7th anniversary the traditional gift is copper. That’s a tough one if you don’t need any new pots and pans. I decided that, in addition to some earrings with copper in them, I’d make her a picture frame.
This frame is made of birds eye maple with mahogany splines. The bottom has five pennies inset into it, each with a special date. The first two are our birth years, the middle is our anniversary and the last two are our kids birth years. The frame will get a recent family picture and is for her office desk.
The pennies were cleaned up to a uniform color using a vinegar solution.
Finish is danish oil followed by 3 coats of homemade wipe on poly.
