For a long time I’ve thought that our church’s library/meeting room needed a proper table. Until now they have made do with two long folding tables, side by side. True they weren’t that bad, but I felt a nice table would be worth making.
I wanted to try and match the general color of the other furniture in the room. It’s basically a dark cherry color. In this I think I succeeded, though it was an adventure in coloring wood. My table measures 50 inches by 6 1/2 feet. It’s made from maple veneer plywood with pine edging which is chamfered.
Because the table is in our church, I inscribed references to 4 Bible passages on the table, one on the edge of each side. These are the ones I chose:
Proverbs 16:3 – Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
Matthew 18:20 – For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.
Proverbs 19:21 – Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
John 13:34 – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
I like the way the inscriptions turned out. They don’t stand out from a distance and then you just notice them.
Sometime in the future, maybe this winter, I’m going to make 10 chairs to go with this table.
[EDIT] I’ve added a 6th photo showing the table and the 8 chairs that I built. I may yet build the 9th and 10th, but I’m not in a hurry to do that yet.
