September, 2014—First and most important point: I did NOT do the carving. I do not carve. I found the carving of the eagle in a pile of wood objects at a local thrift shop. Bought it for $2. Trimmed it and cleaned it up, and featured it as the lid of a box. The box is made from hardwood bought “by the pound” at a closeout sale at our regional Woodcraft store. Finish is gloss water-based poly. Nothing special about the joinery here. The legs were fun to make. The box itself is about 12-inches long.

WOW, you stepped way up on this one Art, very nice even if you didn’t do the carving.

That is a beautiful box and the perfect place for the antique eagle.
