ART DECO BOX

I love the Art Deco style so yesterday I got to work and made a box in the deco style for my wifes birthday .
I made a similar box some time ago and this one came together much easier but of course there had to be some new design elements like the lid lift and the polished nickle hing covers for the leather hinges .
I like how this box tuned out without exception ,the lid closes to perfection as the round lift engages itself into the banding and the leather hinges also work very well with no play when the lid is open or closed .
The laminated banding acts as a lid stop at about 95 DEG opening.
The interior is red velvet cloth with a tray lift that I designed just for this and has a special meaning for the two of us .
Made from jatoba ,black walnut and white aspen .
The size is 11 3/4” W x6 1/2” D x 4” H .
The finish so far is one coat oil and beeswax with more to come .

Klaus, you have a way of making what ever you touch look good. All of your work has the look of quality and style. At the rate you produce your work, Santa’s work shop comes to mind. Your wife is a very luck woman to have you. Your gift to your her is exquisite, nice work! Happy Birthday to the Mrs :)

So many nice features.
The nickel over the leather hinges is a stroke of genius, looks very nice.
You’re on a roll ….. and I think you’re just getting started.

Thanks Klaus

Nice indeed. You have captured the Deco style with the Kiefer panache. I like it!

Very nice Klaus. Lots of nice details in there.
Love what you did with the hinges – I’ve got to remember that.

Well done,
Steve
