Stole this design from one a friend had. The lid is tapered underneath so you just press down and slide it open.

Very attractive and nicely done!

Gerry,
The “simple” but beautiful box is difficult to achieve. You have a strong candidate here. My compliments.

Very nice box. I love the design. I would like to know more about how the box is constructed if possible.

I’m not sure these photos will post here as I’m just figuring this posting stuff out. Basically it’s just a dado ledge to hold the lid in place and then sanding or shaping the outer 2 1/2” or so of the underside of the lid to a rounded taper. This allows you to press each outer edge of the lid down enough, from the top, to clear the other side of the lid from the box edge, and slide it open.

OK, I don’t get it. Two questions-

Are you sure this is zebra wood and not rosewood?

And do you hold the lid on with magnets? If it was a dado, it would hold the lid, but you wouldn’t be able to rock it up.

OK, three questions- do you just let gravity hold the lid on?

Beautiful box, in any event.
