We have an open landing at the top of the stairs to our second story and it has been kind of a dead space since we moved in 3 years ago. My wife decided it would be a perfect spot for a daybed where she can lay and read when I have taken over the couch and tv. We can also always use an extra bed for out of town family guests. We looked online and in furniture stores for a nice daybed but were dismayed by the prices for seemingly inferior products. I decided this would be a great project for me.. It was also a nice excuse to buy a new handheld airless paint sprayer.
The credit for the plans goes to Ana White. My wife found her site while going pinterest crazy one weekend. My wife now doesn’t understand why I don’t just make all of our furniture from now on. Now I know this isn’t exactly fine furniture, but it is perfect for our needs. It is made from dimensional select pine, mdf, and primed pine trim, all bought at my local big box store. Therefore, it’ was very affordable and went together in just one weekend. I feel that although it may not be considered “fine furniture”, it turned out great and is miles better than anything we could find locally for a reasonable price. I only found a few minor tweaks I thought prudent for stability and aesthetics.
The paint sprayer turned out to be a great buy because I got an almost flawless paint finish. Everyone that sees it just can’t believe I built it, I think mostly due to the finish. A nice glossy smooth painted surface always makes a project look more professional. I have no doubt that I will get plenty of use from the sprayer in the future.
