Howdy,

What can I do with scraps, garbage and pallets? LOL! I had no idea myself! This Dog house is made from all of the above. I had some off cut pieces of particle board, some narrow rip strips, left over flooring, hunks of construction ply, some horrendous utility oak flooring and a few hunks of poplar and cedar with a bunch of wood pieces that started life as something else.

I just decided to fly by the seat of my pants and start building. I made a few mistakes here and there because there was no plan but it’s a dog house. I didn’t need absolute precision. I definitely needed sturdy.

Some of the decorative strips are actually laminated pieces of wood. I was going to do the entire exterior like the front but that was taking too long so I opted for 6 inches around the perimeter.

The floor is actually utility oak from lumber liquidators. Wow that stuff is rough! I had to take a belt sander to it while I had it laid out to make sure that the dips and valleys matched up. Yes, that floor is a little wavy and the knot holes go clean through. Oh well, That wood wasn’t much good for anything else. I won’t be buying it again.

That roof is actually some left over pieces of my bedroom floor. The ceiling itself is made out of some old under the water bed mega drawers from the 70’s. My daughter is going to decorate it in her leisure. She couldn’t find the time to paint it for this posting but I’ll share her art later.

It’s impossible to see but the bottom side has a ribbed under floor to lessen the ground contact. However, this house will spend it’s time under the covered patio. The dogs love to hang out there. I may need to build 2 more to resemble the three bears. This one is definitely the big one.

In event of a tornado, we’re getting in the dog house. It weighs in at about 200 pounds. I almost killed my neighbor when he helped me move it. The only ones who won’t be safe are the dogs! They haven’t taken to it yet. ;)

-- Thanks for all the lessons!

Wow, That’s big enough for a wide screen TV! Very nice job. I like the finish on the front a lot!

COOL dog house, Mark!

Nice use of all those Left-Overs!

Do you have ventilation around the top between roof & walls?
... I think the dogs would like that…

COOL…

I thought I even saw some Purple heart in there! COOL!

Thank you.

That too cool. But you should not let the little woman know you can fit in it!! Or you may have to put the dogs out on a cold night and move in!!

Nice going, Mark!!..............JIm

This dog house looks incredible! As it was made of new wood not old recycled. Maybe just advice for future doghouse projects : door never should be in the middle of the front side, it must be at the corner.

Great job! Has that very distinctive “MarkTheFiddler” look. Congratulations on the DT3, and sorry I missed the party but I was out slaying trout all weekend and the wifi reception was worthless.

Howdy, thanks again the the kind compliments.

The dog party status – they all had hangovers yesterday from their mysterious cache of booze. I have gone searching for the cache and found nothing except for a large hole in the garden. I suspect they either finished off their stash or they moved it.

There was an underlying agitation with the pooches yesterday as well. It seems they were missing out on a fishing trip with John. All three consoled themselves by hanging out in their new digs.
