This was created for a wonderful customer living in California to be used as a gift for her husband-to-be.

The overall shape was dictated by the customer and was different enough from my “standard” paddle that I had to create a new pattern for it – well worth the effort after seeing the finished product!

This paddle flares a bit at the bottom and all three sides of the paddle taper from 1 inch thick at the center to only about 3/8 of an inch at the edges – figuring out how to accurately do the tapering was the largest challenge of this build.

All edges, to include the holes in the paddle are eased over on my router table.

The engraving was accomplished using my CNC Router.

Paddle stands around 45 inches tall and overall is an inch thick solid Ash.

Finish is a quick soak in food-grade mineral oil.

I will certainly be offering this new style on my web page – it’s a winner!

By the way, I recently heard from the customer and her husband loved his gift. They already brewed their first batch of beer with it as husband and wife – lovely!

Cheers!

Very nice. I’m glad you weren’t around when my shop teacher was still allowed to use a paddle on kids when things weren’t “quiet.”

It has to be absolutely true love when a woman gives her husband-to-be a mash paddle…
Lovely stuff. Thanks for sharing
