My first turned bowl

This is my first attempt at turning a bowl from two different types of wood scraps.
Curly Maple and Black walnut with gun stock finish rubbed in.
I have never turned a bowl before so excuse the clunkyness of it at the base.
I was afraid to dig to deep but I guess that fear goes away with experience.
I want to turn my scraps into segmented bowls so this was my first test piece of the glue up and such.
It was a lot of fun and very satisfying at the end.
I can see why people love to turn wood !

Turning is no different than anything else, the more you do the better you get. If you are serious about turning look for a local club. There are some great mentors in the local clubs with great experience and willing to help You are off to a good start but a coach can really move you ahead

I have to agree with you on the hat thing! I noticed that also! Must be my inner fashion designer?
I would say it was my intention but I was actually afraid to remove to much on my first project so it took that shape.. Unless you believe I did it on purpose !!

Nice blend of colors maybe you could do a oil based poly over it and give that great dog of yours a special bowl?
