Picker up a few blocks of Box Edler from LJ Techteacher earlier this year & finally got a round to working on them. Decided to keep the “live edge” on this one. Pretty much free handed the cut to follow the top shape & using the lower height of the back to determine height of the drawer. 3 coats of General Finishes 450 exterior to try to maintain the “red flame”. I used stiff brush on the live edge to clean it before it was sealed. Came out more glossy on top than I’d liked, but someone may like it enough to purchase. Overall size about 5 1/2” high, 6” wide, 3 1/2” deep.
Somethings I’ve found with the GF 450 is that it’s very easy to apply & drys quickly, they say Okay to sand between coats in about an hour. BUT, after final coat has dried & I wait more than 24 hours before putting the drawer in the box, it seems that the drawer “sticks” a little in the box after it sits for a while, just enough to notice when you pull it open… I’ll be contacting GF to get their input/suggestions. I did put some Johnson’s paste wax on the purple heart boxes I did earlier & it seemed to help some.
Thanks for looking.
