Very nice looking instruments. I especially like the two in the middle. Thanks for sharing.

Nice! The second from the right, is that a six string bass? Does it go to a deep “G”?

Oh, I think I have mistaken, these are from a gallery. I used to work at Georgetown Univeristy Hospital. I should re-visit soon. What part of the hospital is this gallery installation?

Thanks for your positive comments.
Sorry, I hadn’t quite worked out the navigation here, but I’ll try to respond in kind.
rikkor – the second from the right is a 41” scale 6 string fretless. I named it the contra-monsta, the bridge is milled from phosphor bronze. It was made for the Patti LaBelle and Michael Ray’s bass player. He’s 6’6” and wanted an upright feel – the sound is very sing-songy, like a hi-fi Jaco Pastorius.
mmh – my wife took the photos at a group show at Gallery 101 in DC.
Napaman – thanks much. Some of them are on recordings by the two groups named above as well as others including 50 Man Machine, Dubkore, Sacred Fire, etc. Some of the music is available on ITunes.
My goal has been to make honest sounding and feeling instruments. The guitars are usually guilty of trying to cover strat, tele, and les paul sounds. The basses on the other hand are much more uniquely individual sounding. Emphasis is usually on low frequency and one or two particular characteristic vocal frequencies.
My approach on these is practical art as opposed to ‘guitar making’.
It’s hard to find places to store it all otherwise!
