Been meaning to do this forever. I have a ton of 8’ L 2” T and 19” wide mahogany slabs. Made a simple coffee table. No fasteners. The legs are glued and the shelf between mortised 3/4” into each leg. Not even glued. Only thing I used otherwise were 2 dowels in each leg more as alignment pins than anything. Did most of the finishing with the leg lines taped off, then glued the legs up and finished the top. All lacquer. Seal and sprayed all parts except the top which got rubbed between, grain filled and many more coats for a smooth surface.

All measurements based on the golden ratio. Leg spread to table width, shelf to total height, width. Real simple.

I wanted to go darker. Held off as I want to see how long nature will take doing this for me.
