I have got a bit of a thing about Arum Lilies and Kowhai Buds at the moment so they are appearing on some of my carvings. I am quite pleased with the outcome of this one as the wood worked easily and took the fine detail without crumbling. Driftwood was used and the colour is natural. I don’t know what would give such a rich chocolate colour other than Walnut and Pururi. The chance of finding either lying about on beaches near me is pretty slim. Never the less I will go with Walnut in the absence of a better idea.
The carving was straightforward using the knives I make. The hardest part is getting a 3 dimensional face on a flat-ish piece of wood. Its half carving in the round and half flat carving.
