Last of the Surround Sound Speakers

This is my last pair of speakers I’ll make for our new Surround Sound TV room. Like the earlier pair I made I needed to determine the optimum volume for these particular speakers. After all the calculations, I designed the box that was closest to this volume.

First off, I had to repair the speakers. Let me back up a little, i obtained these speakers way way back in the 1970’s! I safeguard them while I was in the Army and during many many many moves. They were bubble wrapped inside towels all this time. When I finally got around to needing them they were in horrible shape the foam had deteriorated so badly that I almost tossed them into the trash. I checked YouTube to see if anyone had repaired damage like mine and discovered speakers can be repaired and there is an actual repair kit for my speakers. I visited “Simply Speakers” ( http://www.simplyspeakers.com/ ) website and purchased their repair kit. I watched their video and followed their well written instructions. Time and money well spent after the repair the speakers looked new and sound terrific.

Thanks for taking the time to look, any comments are eagerly awaited.

I had some B&O 140 Red Lines I wish I’d have hung onto. The repair kit looks like it did a great job bring some life back to these speakers. Well done.

Well done sir. It’s a shame they were damaged, but you have pulled off a great looking repair. I think with all the work you have done on all the speakers you should have a great sound system. Thanks for posting your progress, and looking forward to your next project.

Great that you were able to save these old speakers! It seems like the ‘70’s were when all the best audio equipment was made, even though we have surround sound and all that now.

I’m sure you sound system sounds great—so movie night at your house!!

Glad you were able to save those babies. You did a great job on the cabinets. I only wish I saved all the ones I had from the 70’s.
