I have a few blocks of poplar from a fallen tree that i have had for a while. I came up with this idea because of a buddy that lives for his bikes. He loves the old school bikes best. So this gave me an excuse to try my hand at minor carving with my router mill.
I found a picture of an older Harley Motor and sketched it on the block then started free hand carving it with the x and y axes. Its kind of like drawing with an etch a sketch. Then I milled away the wood around it so its raised. Its not perfect but recognizable.
I hollowed out the inside, put a slot in the top and it became a bank. I used a dove tail bit along the bottom edge with a matching angle slide door. The last picture is what the block looked like when I started.
