I’m telling you…nothing motivates me like hearing my wife say “No, don’t worry, I’ll just buy the (object made of wood) online.” So when she started looking for a jewelry box online to hang in her closet, I set about making one. Several months later, it’s finally done. Far more work than expected!
Case is curly maple, dyed a bit pink, as are the inside components. Case is full-blind dovetails. Walnut door is splined with maple and held on with a full-length piano hinge. Rare earth magnets hold it closed.
Drawer fronts are made from laminated, curved walnut, a first for me. Drawer pulls are curly maple, with a sort of ace of spades shape. Drawers by far took the most time on this build.
Sliding dovetails were used for the sliding dowels in the bottom for bracelets and for the ear ring storage. The entire front unit slides up and reveals a second storage area.
Straight ear ring holder has small holes drilled in at a 10-degree angle so they will not fall out.
Lots of hooks and hinged pieces to maximize storage.
Entire unit is covered in black felt. The door section of felt is held in place with about 250 nail heads.
What a build! I got in over my head on this one!
