I was commissioned to design and create 75 medallions to be given to the participants of the first annual Stagecoach Days in Deadwood, South Dakota.
I took a picture at the local museum of one of the stages used in 1880 here in town and converted into an image that I could use for the stagecoach portion. The stagecoaches were created using my laser on 5/32 Birch plywood.
The bases are Poplar that have been cut down to 1/2 inch in thickness. They are 6 by 3 3/4 inch ovals with a 3/8 inch groove cut on the outside to give them some dimension. The lettering was added via my laser and a jig that would hold nine at a time and then they were stained with a walnut stain.
I really like it when I am given free reign on a project like this and I can play around with the design.
