This was built for a customer who wanted a ‘real wood’ closet ( about 80” x 80” )- not the stuff the other closet companies offer. I used all oak veneered plywood for shelves and carcasses with solid oak on face frames , drawer fronts, trim , and shelf noses. Used minwax red mahogany as per the customer

Nice job overall, but the staining looks terrific! You matched the solid wood and the plywood perfectly.

This is something the customer will be showing off to her house guests for quite a while!

Cheers!

I’d like to know more about the finish you used. Looks incredible.

Joel:

I used two coats of regular Minwax red mahogany you can get at Home Depot. For poly – I used Minwax oil-based “high build” formula; first coat thinned about 20% with mineral spirits, then light sand with 220, and finally a second coat. I cheat a little by tinting the poly with the stain to build a little darker color; be careful with pooling and drips and stir often. For this project I used foam brushes for the poly application

Hope this helps
