I wanted an oriental look and really like the combination of cherry and spalted maple. There is a little bit of wenge between the spalted maple parts. This is a modified copy of a very similar design that I found for a backboard on line. The back is also tilted about 10 or 11 degrees back so it is more comfortable to lay back and read in bed. The bed is set up to float over a bottom frame so, instead of slats to hold the mattress, there is 3/4” plywood. Finally, bed bolts hold the frame together. They are buried in the wood on the side frame and come out the back. The cover over the back mortise is held in place with a small but very strong magnet so the frame can easily be taken apart should I ever decide to move. Next up are some night stands to match.

That wood combo is killer. Overall shapes are well done and definitely eye pleasing. Can’t buy that at a store.
